Australia Drop to No. 3 in WTC Standings After Losing Cape Town Test

Loss of Top Spot: Australia have slipped to No.3 in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table following their 2-1 away Test series defeat against South Africa.

Test Ranking Shift: By losing the series decider in Cape Town, Australia also surrendered their No.1 ranking in Test cricket to South Africa.

"That [No.1 ranking] is exceptional. I think that's obviously been a part of our ambition as a team," Bavuma said. "We're trying to push that standard as high as we can. With this opportunity that we have, we want to leave the Proteas badge in a better place. So we'll definitely celebrate that milestone as a team.

Updated Table Positions:

1st: New Zealand (72.22 percentage points) | 2nd: South Africa (71.43 percentage points) | 3rd: Australia (69.23 percentage points; down from 80 percentage points before the series) | 4th: India (51.52 percentage points)

Team Reactions & Upcoming Schedules

South Africa: Captain Temba Bavuma celebrated the milestone as one of the proudest achievements of his tenure, emphasizing the team's ambition to push standards higher. The defending WTC champions (having won the title at Lord's last year) will enjoy a two-week break before hosting Bangladesh for a two-match Test series in November.

Australia: Looking to regroup at home, Australia's next Test assignment is a four-match series against New Zealand, beginning with the first Test in Perth on December 9.

India: India holds a chance to improve their standing during their upcoming two-match Test series against New Zealand in November–December.
