Craig’s late heroics sink Overton and secure Rockets win

It came down to a head-to-head between Craig and Overton. Craig came out on top in the clutch moments and swung the game for Rockets. With the match in the balance, Craig’s hitting / bowling under pressure got Rockets over the line. Overton couldn’t respond and Rockets finished the job. Rockets take the win. The Craig vs Overton contest proved to be the turning point.

Craig Overton starred at the death, hitting the winning runs off his brother Jamie, after Ben Duckett had pulled and scooped his way to a 47-ball 75 to move him to third on the all-time run-scoring list for The Hundred, overtaking Liam Livingstone, who had earlier gone past Will Jacks to move into that position.

After the Rockets won the toss and bowled, four of Spirit's top five got going, only Jonny Bairstow missing out. South African Lhuan-dre Pretorius hit a quickfire 24 and compatriot Dewald Brevis an innings-high 39, while Englishmen James Rew and skipper Liam Livingstone also chipped in. At 127 for 4 off 78, Spirit would have been eyeing 180 but excellent death bowling from the Rockets kept the total to something manageable.

Rockets bowling - Spinners star, Henry expensive

Matt Henry struggled again in The Hundred: 29 off 10 balls today, after 48 off 15 vs Phoenix on Friday. But Rockets were saved by the spinners. Calvin Harrison and Mitch Santner were excellent, with good support from Lewis Gregory and Mohammad Amir to keep things tight.

Spirit chase - Fast start, then collapse

David Willey struck early, getting Finn Allen for a 5-ball duck. Then Tom Banton took over. He and Duckett put on 72 off 41 balls and looked in control. Captain Livingstone juggled well — used Willey out early. The breakthroughs came: AJ Tye - had Banton caught at point, then got Duckett well taken by James Coles Jamie Overton - dismissed Tim David From there the Rockets’ chase stagnated.

Craig Overton, who hit 20 off 6 to seal the win against his brother, said: "Jamie got me out last year so I had to get some payback! I was just trying to get it into the air with the wind. We wanted to make sure we were in with a chance towards the end and Dad will be happy with the way we played it!"

Trent Rockets 160 for 6 (Duckett 75, Milne 2-25) beat London Spirit 159 for 9 (Brevis 39, Harrison 2-25)
