End of an Era: BCB Moves Mohammad Ashraful to New Role Within Board

Reassignment: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reassigned Mohammad Ashraful from his position as the men's national team batting coach, which he originally took up in November 2025.

Interim Replacement: [Mohammad Salahuddin], currently serving as the BCB's High Performance coach, will step in to lead the batting unit on an interim basis until a permanent replacement is appointed. Coincidentally, Ashraful had previously taken over the role from Salahuddin.

Background & Career Context

Playing Legacy: Ashraful is one of Bangladesh's most iconic former players, having famously captained the side to a historic upset win over Australia in 2005 at age 20. Over his career, he played 61 Tests, 177 ODIs, and 23 T20Is, scoring 3,468 ODI runs (the fifth-highest for his country) and becoming the youngest player to score a Test century.

But his own career was not without its ups and downs. In 2013, he received a lengthy ban from all BCB-related cricket activities for match-fixing in the Bangladesh Premier League. He was eventually brought back to the fold three years later and branched out into coaching.

Coaching Transition: Following a lengthy suspension in 2013 related to Bangladesh Premier League match-fixing, Ashraful returned to the cricketing fold in 2016 and successfully transitioned into coaching.
