England to play 50-over warm-up game ahead of Australia series
England will begin their eight-match white-ball tour of Australia in November and December with a 50-over warm-up match against a Western Australia XI in Perth.
As part of their preparation for the three-match One-Day International series that begins on November 13 at Perth Stadium, England has scheduled the day game on November 7 at the WACA ground. The second and third One-Day Internationals take place on November 15 in Hobart and November 18. England are likely to send a close-to-full-strength ODI side to Australia, with some of their Test stars likely to be rested for the five-match T20I series that runs from November 21 to December 2 as they prepare for a Test tour of South Africa.
Coming out of a three-match Test tour of South Africa that ends on October 31 and precedes the four-match series against New Zealand on December 9, Australia will face a situation similar to this, with some of their Test bowlers needing to be managed.
Before the Ashes tour last year, England were criticized for not scheduling a full warm-up game in Perth. Instead, they lost the first Test at Perth Stadium within two days after playing an intrasquad match on a slow surface at Lilac Hill, a club ground in the eastern suburbs of Perth.
This year, England's ODI team under white-ball coach Brendon McCullum chose a different strategy.
McCullum stated last month, "There's not a lot of experience in that side, aside from Jos [Buttler], Joe [Root] and Adil Rashid." "You've got to try to navigate what you can, try to include what you can with the opposition you're playing, and make sure they are good,"
After a disappointing start to the season for the WA One-Day domestic team, it will be interesting to see how good the WA XI is. The tour match is in the middle of an 11-day break between two away Shield games in Melbourne and Adelaide.
Six days after the conclusion of the third Test in South Africa, it is highly unlikely that Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, and Cooper Connolly, WA's Test and ODI players, would be made available. Depending on their fitness, quicks Mahli Beardman, Jhye Richardson, and Lance Morris may be included. The red-ball loads of Richardson and Morris will influence their availability.
The last time Morris and WA Shield captain Aaron Hardie played England in a tour match at the WACA ground was in 2017-18. Josh Philippe, a young Tim David, and Australia's white-ball bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile were also in that match.
