HCA told to remove Mohammed Azharuddin stand in Uppal Stadium

Mohammed Azharuddin's name must be removed from the North Pavilion Stand of the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Uppal, Hyderabad, per an order issued to the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA). Additionally, the HCA has been instructed to ensure that the name Azharuddin is not printed on any tickets in the future. Justice V Eswaraiah, the HCA's Ethics Officer and Ombudsman, issued the order on Saturday. The Lords Cricket Club's petition was the basis for the Ombudsman's action. Because Azharuddin, a former HCA president and former India captain, has made a decision in his own favor, he ordered that there is a conflict of interest. "The case against the Respondent No. is strengthened further by the fact that the General Body has not ratified or modified the decision." 1 (Azharuddin), the Respondent No. 1, has acted outside of his authority for personal gain. "A clear case of conflict of interest is made out as a result of my findings," Justice V Eswaraiah stated in his 25-page verdict. "For all practical purposes including but not limited to signages, printing of tickets etc. and pass any such order or orders as are deemed fit and proper in the circumstances of the case and in the interest of justice," petitioner Lords Cricket Club pleaded with the Ombudsman to overturn Azharuddin's "high handed" decision to name the North Stand the Mohammed Azharuddin Stand. It was argued that Azharuddin's action was illegal and arbitrary, and neither the General Body nor the Apex Council made a decision to include the "Mohammed Azharuddin Stand" above the "VVS Laxman Pavilion" name.
