Lamplough stars but Thailand edge Hong Kong in Women's Asia Cup opener

A key all-round performance from Marina Lamplough fell just short as Thailand Women held their nerve to claim a six-run victory over Hong Kong Women in the opening match of the Women's T20 Asia Cup in Dubai.

Chaiwai Anchors First Innings: Thailand captain Naruemol Chaiwai top-scored with a punchy 43 off 31 balls (4 fours, 2 sixes). However, Thailand suffered a late-innings collapse, losing seven wickets for 20 runs in the final 3.1 overs to finish at 120/9.

Lamplough's Career Best: Marina Lamplough led Hong Kong's bowling attack, taking a career-best 4 for 11—including a three-wicket burst in the final over of the innings.

Kamchomphu Turns the Tide: In response, Hong Kong built a strong foundation through Kary Chan (28) and Yasmin Daswani (28). Offspinner Onnicha Kamchomphu broke the game open by removing both set batters along with skipper Maryam Bibi, finishing with figures of 3 for 27.

Closing the Chase & All-Time Record: Needing 27 from the final three overs, Hong Kong's lower order was restricted to just two boundaries. Thipatcha Putthawong successfully defended 14 in the final over, dismissing Shanzeen Shahzad to secure the win and move to No. 1 on the all-time WT20I wicket-takers list.
