Matt Short takes on Adelaide Strikers captaincy

Matthew Short, last season's player of the tournament in the BBL, has been named Adelaide Strikers' new captain.

Short takes over for all time from Travis Head having subbed for him last season. He scored 458 runs and guaranteed 11 wickets in the 2022-23 release of the competition and has since made his T20I and ODIs debut for Australia.

He will be in the running for a spot in the following year's T20 World Cup crew in spite of the fact that there is a crush for top-request batting openings alongside Head, David Warner, Mitchell Bog, Steven Smith.

Toward the finish of the new T20I series in India Short was given a run lower down the request to see him in a completing job

"Matt was a champion decision to take on the captaincy at the Adelaide Strikers and we are excited to report him as our 6th chief," Strikers lead trainer Jason Gillespie said. "At the point when he moved forward last year we were exceptionally intrigued with his administration and we are anticipating seeing him become further into the job."

Short added: "I truly partook in the little taste of captaincy I got last season and I'm eager to place my complete focus to it in BBL13."

Strikers are probably not going to see a lot of Head or Alex Carey for this season's competition given the Test plan in spite of the fact that there is an opportunity they could show up between the Pakistan and West Indies series in mid-January.

Strikers completed seventh last season with only five successes from 14 matches. They will open this mission against Brisbane Intensity in Adelaide on Saturday.
