Nitish Reddy pulled out of Asian Games for West Indies ODI series

The Indian team for the home ODI and T20I series against the West Indies has been announced. The team, which also includes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, is led by Shubman Gill. Shreyas Iyer has been replaced as vice-captain for the series by KL Rahul, who played in Gill's place in the previous ODI against England. Iyer will lead the Indian team in the one-off T20I against Japan as well as the Asian Games that overlap with the one-dayers.

In favor of the one-day internationals, Nitish Kumar Reddy has opted out of the Asian Games. Naman Dhir, the Punjab batter, has earned his maiden call-up along with Auqib Nabi. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who played in the Afghanistan ODIs but did not feature in the England one-dayers, has been included as the backup opener.

Aside from Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Jasprit Bumrah, Harshit Rana, Arshdeep Singh, and Shivam Dube are the other players who traveled to England but were not selected for the team. Except for Rana, who was replaced by Yash Thakur, all of them are participating in the Asian Games.

Rishabh Pant, however, does not find a place in the ODI squad, with Dhruv Jurel preferred as the second wicketkeeper. Pant, meanwhile, will lead Rest of India in the Irani Cup.
