Pietersen joins England white-ball set-up as specialist mentor

In preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup, the former captain of England's men's white-ball teams has been given the role of specialist mentor.

The white-ball tour to Australia will be his first assignment, followed by South Africa. He will return to the team for the home series against Pakistan and New Zealand, preparing for the World Cup over the next year. The most important ODI tournament will be held in South Africa, where he was born, with Zimbabwe and Namibia serving as co-hosts.

Pietersen will join Marcus Trescothick, Tim Southee, Sarah Taylor, and Jeetan Patel in Brendon McCullum's coaching staff. He has previously served as a mentor for the Delhi Capitals, an IPL franchise.

Pietersen expressed his excitement regarding the opportunity in a statement released by the ECB:

Being asked to assist this team in their quest to win the World Cup in South Africa makes me extremely proud. It is a tremendous honor and a very special experience to once again don the England uniform, which I have not done since 2014.

“I am excited to get into the trenches and work tirelessly with these players to maximize their potential. We have an extremely talented white-ball squad. I can't wait to get started as a member of Brendon's think tank over the next year. It's a fantastic opportunity.

"I’ve got immense respect for KP and what he’s achieved in the game," said White-ball head coach McCullum of Pietersen's entry into the setup. Because of his incredible influence on English cricket, it is a fantastic outcome for someone of his experience, knowledge, and stature to want to contribute to this team.

I'm especially happy for our batters to have the chance to work with him. Our players will greatly benefit from KP's unique understanding of what it takes to perform at the highest level.
