Russell Domingo Leaves Hampshire Head Coach Role After One Season

Stepping Down: Russell Domingo has left his role as Hampshire's head coach after just one season in charge.

They had flirted with the same fate in 2025, reprieved by Durham's final-day collapse against Yorkshire. But despite continued T20 success, reaching Blast Finals Day for the fifth year out of six, their relegation from the Championship was confirmed in mid-September. They also failed to get out of the group stage in the One-Day Cup.

Focus on South Africa: Domingo, who combined the Hampshire position with coaching the Lions in his native South Africa, has opted to step down to focus entirely on his coaching commitments back home.

Red-Ball Struggles & Season Context

Championship Relegation: Despite being appointed in late 2025 as the successor to Adi Birrell, Domingo could not turn around the club's red-ball form, resulting in Hampshire's relegation from Division One of the County Championship in mid-September.

Limited-Overs Success: The red-ball struggles contrasted with their continued success in the T20 Blast, where they reached Finals Day for the fifth time in six years. However, they also failed to progress past the group stage in the One-Day Cup.

Next Steps

Club Rebuild: Hampshire's director of cricket, Giles White, confirmed the club has begun a search for a new men's head coach with the primary goal of challenging for promotion back to Division One while maintaining their limited-overs success.
