Tony de Zorzi Ruled Out of First Test Against Australia With Hamstring Strain

South African left-handed batter Tony de Zorzi has been ruled out of the first Test against Australia due to a mild left hamstring injury.

How It Happened: De Zorzi sustained the injury while fielding during the third ODI against Australia in Potchefstroom. He limped off the field and was unable to bat during South Africa’s second innings. Subsequent scans confirmed a mild hamstring strain.

Match Target: He will miss the first Test starting on October 9 at Kingsmead, Durban. Medical staff are aiming to have him available for the remaining two Tests of the three-match series.

Squad Impact: Cricket South Africa (CSA) has opted not to call up an immediate replacement. They will trim their 18-player preliminary squad down to a final 15-man group ahead of the Durban Test. Uncapped Dolphins batter Marques Ackerman is among the potential options in the squad to feature.

Proteas' Hamstring Crisis: De Zorzi is the fifth South African player affected by hamstring issues over the past two months, joining pace bowlers Lungi Ngidi, Ottneil Baartman, and Kwena Maphaka on the sidelines. Kagiso Rabada Update: Lead paceman Kagiso Rabada, who was also recovering from a hamstring strain, has returned to full training in Durban and is participating in a two-day intra-squad match to confirm his readiness for the series opener
