Wickets continue to fall as New Zealand stumble again

Wickets continued to tumble in the Lord's Test as New Zealand found the going tough once again in the morning session on the second day. After bowling England out for 141 in the morning, the visitors lost three wickets for the addition of just 38 runs to sit precariously with a lead of 29 runs.

New Zealand, on expected lines, didn't take a long time to get the job done in the morning as England's plans to bat long suffered an early blow when Tim Southee managed to castle Stuart Broad. The left-hander fetched a boundary earlier but his aggressive approach resulted in him losing his leg stump soon after. Key batter Ben Foakes was the next to depart as he pushed an outswinger to edge behind to the slip cordon.

Matthew Parkinson, the concussion substitute, hung in for a while to help England take the first innings lead but the fight didn't last long as Trent Boult finished proceedings by dismissing the debutant. With a slender 9-run deficit ahead of them, New Zealand were hoping for a better performance with the bat this time around to get a grip on the game. But they got off to the worst possible start when James Anderon struck early again with the brand new cherry.

Will Young couldn't prevent the ball from kissing the outside edge and landing on Foakes' gloves to give England the early breakthrough. The under-pressure Kane Williamson did time one delivery to perfection through mid off to fetch his first boundary but the skipper didn't last long. Matty Potts, who managed to dismiss Williamson in the first innings, got him for the second time as the batter edged one to Jonny Bairstow at third slip.

Tom Latham appeared to have settled down at the crease but he too perished just minutes before the lunch break. Potts was once again the wrecker-in-chief as he edged one behind to the keeper. He managed to review the on-field call, only to be sent back by the third umpire following the presence of a spike on Ultra Edge. With just 29 runs ahead, New Zealand need at least a couple of batter to step up post the lunch break in order to challenge the home side.
